Diagnose first. Replace second.
Too many generator "repairs" start with replacing expensive parts and hoping. We start with diagnostics: read the controller's fault history, test the battery under load, check fuel supply and pressure, verify the transfer switch, and run the unit through its paces. Most generator problems are simple once you actually find them — the skill is in the finding.
The usual suspects
Won't start: dead or weak battery (the #1 cause, by far), failed starter, or a controller fault. Starts then shuts down: low oil shutdown, overcrank, fuel supply issue, or a sensor fault. Runs rough: fuel pressure problems, dirty air filter, spark or ignition issues. Won't transfer: transfer switch failure, sensing issue, or a wiring problem between switch and generator. Fault codes: the controller is telling you exactly what's wrong — if you know how to read it.
All brands, including orphans
We service Generac, Kohler, Cummins, Briggs & Stratton, and other standby brands — including units installed by companies that are no longer around. Bought a house with a mystery generator on a pad out back? We'll identify it, assess its condition, and tell you honestly whether it's worth repairing or replacing.
After the storm
Post-outage is our busiest repair season: units that ran for days need oil changes and inspections, and units that failed to start need diagnosis. Maintenance plan members get priority scheduling during these rushes — one more reason the plan pays for itself. If your generator let you down in the last outage, Send the form and tell us what happened. We'll make sure it doesn't happen twice.
